IMEIVERTU replica owners and owners of cloned phones are on some occasions met with problem of their brand new phones displaying “SIM REGISTRATION FAILED”. Blocked and unregistered IMEIs are usually the cause.

The International Mobile Equipment Identity or IMEI (pronounced /aɪˈmiː/) is a number unique to every GSM and WCDMA and iDEN mobile phone as well as some satellite phones. It is usually found printed on the phone underneath the battery. It can be found by typing *#06# on a handset.

The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used to stop a stolen phone from accessing the network. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to “ban” the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless, whether or not the phone’s SIM is changed.

When VERTU replica phones first came out they had one shared IMEI. The first cases of “SIM REGISTRATION FAILED” popped out in the UK, on the O2 network. Several phones somehow got into the hands of VERTU in the UK (the original manufacturers) and they urged the UK and, most probably Irish network operators to blacklist the IMEI. This resulted in the denial of service for all the replica VERTU phones which shared that same IMEI. VERTU copy owners started to switch to other operators, and some would even work. After a number of these incidents VERTU replica phones started to change IMEIs for the UK, so that O2 and Vodafone would accept them. Even if one phone is somehow siezed by VERTU and its IMEI added to the blacklist – only that one single phone will be rendered useless, all the rest of the replica VERTU owners should be quite safe on any network. UK was not the only country blocking IMEIs, later in 2008 several US replica owners claimed to be having the “SIM REGISTRATION FAILED” issue.

I had a guy from Denmark write to me a few weeks ago, who had a VERTU Constellation replica. His SIM cards (several operators) wouldn’t allow the phone to register on the network. After some e-mails and calls to Danish cellphone operators, we found out that Denmark’s network operators limit the use of international (non-local) cell phones. This means that any foreign IMEI is not accepted by the operators. The IMEI had to be changed to one that seemed local. I suggested that he contact the producer in China and asked him to change the IMEI for him to an IMEI from one of his old NOKIA phones, which worked perfectly on all Danish networks. I’m not sure how he went about this, but I’m sure the problem was solved.

Solving the “SIM REGISTRATION FAILED” issue is quite simple. The phone has to be sent back to have its IMEI changed. That’s what most sellers, re-sellers, producers will tell you. It’s OK if you like in China or Hong Kong. But what if you are located in the UK. Shipping, usually at your own expense, is not cheap and
takes quite a long time. There is another option, though. You can have it changed in your own country.

I’ve done some experimenting with my own Vertu Ascent Ti Ferrari III replica and found out that most mobile phone repair shops that offer phone unlocking are able to change the IMEI on any replica VERTU phone. If you take your replica VERTU to a repair shop – they would most probably tell you that they are not able to do anything with it, because it’s of an unknown origin. Well, I found out the origin, and even the tools that can be used to have your IMEI changed or to chage it yourself.

VERTU replica phones are CECT phones. The model is usually MT 6227. There are several IMEI changing software options out there. But the trick is the cable. The regular USB cable that comes with VERTU replica phones is NOT able to change anything in the software, including the IMEI. You will have to get a special cable or a so-called box. One of the most popular chinese boxes is the Infinity Box (http://www.infinity-box.com/), another is the ET Box (http://www.et-box.net/). It supports the flashing (and IMEI changing) of MTK chip phones and CECT software. VERTU replica phones can be connected up to an Infinity Box or to an ET Box and the IMEI can be changed in seconds. Most mobile repair shops have such boxes. I recommend that you leave this kind of work to professionals at your local mobile phone repair shop and always ask your seller about the warranty terms and conditions and what-if’s before meddling with your VERTU replica.

  1. Hi

sorry to bother you. i recently purchased my first vertu, and had the sim registration failure. All the mobile stores are behaving like angels and wont unblock the phone for me. Does you know any software i can download myself and changei t myself. I have read of sending it to china, but i have no idea who made it.
any suggestions? Online you seem to the only one who has any idea.

    I am based in UK

    regards

There is lots of software available. I have a phone from Lux-Replica-Phones and they have their own IMEI changer for Vertu replica right here IMEI Changer. Alas, it will not work with your regular USB cable and connection. You will have to either rewire it (diagrams available on the net) or get an Infinity Box (mentioned in my post above). As for the who made it part – depends on the model and where you actually bought it from. The dealer might accept it back and give you a full refund, but they will most probably never refund the shipping costs that you will have to take care of when sending it back to them. If you have any more questions contact me.

      Regards,
      Tim.

  2. Hi
first of all, thank you for replying.I have been searching online for hours and got no where. So i really appreciate you taking your time to reply to me.

i did download the program but no idea how to use it lol. and i dont want to buy a infinity box as it cost a few hundred dollars. Out of intrest, the charger i got, is a data cable where usb slots into plug and other end into the phone. So i take it i can use that wire for changing imei. But thats once i can work out fow it works.

I now find that the phone will work with a Orange sim card, but not 02 (in England). On the website you gave, they do state that there is problems with 02.SO going to try it with a turbo sim when it comes through the post. But just a few questions for you.

1)Any idea why one network would work but other network doesnt (just find that strange)
2)In the back there is a sim compartment and then there is another smaller compartment, what is that sued for? Never seen that before in a phone.

thanks beforehand and keep up the good work.

    • Kopno,

Using the program is not that hard. The main problem is actually connecting up the phone. Such boxes may be available at local repair shops or amateur hobbyists, try to sniff them out at forums online, I’m sure that there are people who own one of those babies.

If you want to rewire your USB cable, make sure you have got a spare one. Bear in mind that you will not be able to get that same USB cable type in the UK, it’s only available in China, so simply contact the place you got your phone from and tell them that your USB cable is not working, that way you’ll get it shipped out for free (if your VERTU replica is still under warranty). :)

As for the diagrams, I will try to find some diagrams online, I believe I’ve seen some. Try to search for “MT 6227 data cable”; what you need is either an Infinity Box or a Data Cable for VERTU.

      1) Now on to the networks. The idea behind networks blocking and restricting services due to IMEI matching of the phones is not something you get on all operators. Some operators will ignore the authorities requests and keep any IMEI unblocked, as long as they get the money from offering wireless communications services. Another reason for VERTU replica not working on O2, is that O2 has successfully intercepted several identical IMEIs registered in the network at the same time. There can be no phones with same IMEIs unless they’ve been stolen and IMEIs’ve been forged (that’s what they actaully think). O2 blocks the IMEI, and any other VERTU replica that tries to register with that same IMEI will not be allowed into the network. Alas, other networks, who have not traced any “identical IMEI” activity among their users – will not have the IMEI blacklisted or restricted.

      2) The other compartment that you’re talking about is most probably the microSD slot. You can insert microSD cards of up to several GBs into that slot to increase your VERTU phone memory.

      Regards,
      Tim.

  3. Hi a new update.

i have managed to get it working. For people in similar problem use a program called “MTK IMEI”.

luckily i got the data cable included, as its also the charger. But like tim said, the data cable i tihnk is the hardest bit.

all i did was change the IMEI to a old phone i had lying around.

now all i need is Vertu theme as mine looks realyl bland and the spinning star is getting on my nerves. But i see today tims going to get some tones, so hopefully some themes too.

    thanks for your help.
